Church Steps Cottage, Winkleigh
Church Steps Cottage is a delightful character self-catering holiday cottage in Winkleigh in Devon. It lies at the heart of a pretty and vibrant rural village, surrounded by the rolling hills of the Devon countryside, and with views of Dartmoor.
This C18th cottage is filled with traditional charm – flagged floors, exposed beams and the original hearth fireplace. It has been carefully and thoughtfully furnished to provide a welcoming and comforting base in which to relax.
There are three bedrooms: a king-size double, a standard double bedroom and a bedroom with a 2’6 bed with trundle underneath. Each has been beautifully furnished in keeping with the character of the cottage, and they share a similarly characterful bathroom.
The kitchen, with its wooden worktops, tiled walls, shelving and Belfast sink, is evocative of times gone by, whilst providing everything you would expect for creating a home-cooked meal.
The cottage also enjoys its own little walled courtyard area, with table, chairs and firepit, perfect for sitting or eating outside on a warm Devon evening.
Staying in Winkleigh, Devon

Famously the home to the Winkleigh Cider Company, makers of Sam’s Cider, it also boasts The King’s Arms pub (and the Duke of York nearby), a shop, post office, butcher and a cafe.
Fiona’s Farm Shop and Cafe, Down Farm organic veg growers and Ten Acres Vineyard are all within half a mile. For alpaca walking, goats to cuddle, miniature ponies, miniature donkeys and Swiss Valais Blacknose Sheep, you can visit Woolley Animals on the outskirts of the village.
Dartmoor beckons you for spectacular walking with soaring views, and cyclists can join the Tarka Trail, with cycle hire available at Torrington or Bideford.
The garden at RHS Rosemoor is a 15 min drive or bus ride away, and it’s only 30 mins to the north coast for surfing waves, or a little further on for Appledore, a charming estuary town with plenty of Artisan shops and galleries.
